The Soul Collector

The Kia Soul Collective made its stop in Atlanta last weekend for a 4 day concert tour. Unfornately, I had to work the whole weekend so I only madde it to the opening night event. I had a great time at the event (open bar,free photos,free peanuts & gold fishies).

After the event, we headed to Sutra Lounge down town where my inner Beyonce came out on the dance floor. I don'tt see how B dances like that for one song let alone a whole tour. Praises to Queen B, cause my ankles, knees and poor booties were beat after a night of dancing at Sutra.

Nick Cave's Soundsuit Collection—"large, lavish, wondrous costumes". Sorta takes you into an imaginary place where us adults don't get to travel to as much due to real life dilemmas and the call to live in real time instead of in your fantasy worlds. I recently read an interview in V Magazine on Nick Cave and was truly inspired by how he dreams up these wonderful creation and how to tap into your creative side.

Here are some quotes that will help you achieve creative out of this world ideas:

"Is there a nostalgic sensibility in the object so it can aspire to something? When I am out looking for stuff, I am more looking to that idea as opposed to the object itself."

"Don’t look at fashion magazines because it is already done! What is not done is what you see when you walk home from school every day. What could you be inspired by at that moment?’ You know, just trying to move them forward. When I’m doing clothing, I think of more conceptual pieces first and then from that, I draw the collection. I have to have that outlet to be as innovative as I possibly can, and then from that work backwards."


"There was this woman who did this sweater for me and she was halfway through and she brought it to me to see and she was like, ‘Nick, this yarn isn’t looping properly,’ and she was freaking out because of it. And I was like ‘Oh my God! That is exactly what I want!’ So she had to do the whole thing just like it. I said, ‘Don’t try to figure it out, just continue doing what you do.’ It’s so amazing. I would never have liked it to be any other way"

Last weekend I volunteered for the the 2nd annual Le Flash event in Castleberry Hill district. Le Flash is "a conceptual synapse of light & experimentation in public space" basically all the art galleries were open & you had a lot of random activities taken place such as improv parades or the fairy bikini Amy Whinehouse man.

Le Flash was inspired by the annual night out for art in Paris, Toronto, Tokyo, Berlin. I missed the event last year. Le Flash was breath taking, something that I have never experienced. I truly enjoyed the dance performance by GloAtl dancers & Stefani Byrd and Wes Eastin ‘You Sound Funny When You Smile" exhibit- an interactive storefront installation works with real-time sound response & video to reverse cultural stereotypes.

I am so late on these photos-my internet is down right now! But I hung out with my bud Urban Social from Fem-Fatl last weekend at Halo. We had a mellow good time-didn't really cut a rug too hard that night. I ran into some old friends and also meet some new ones too. If you haven't been to Halo in Atlanta, you're a little last season but its never to late to catch up. Halo is a cool lounge located in Downtown Atlanta with laid back atmosphere, you can catch the a vogue off to a b-boy spinning on his head to a bongo player vibing with the sounds provided by the DJ. But Halo is definitely a smokey environment so wait to wash your hair after you gone there.

As I previously stated, the ladies of Fem-Fatl invited me to join them at Brandon Sadler's Art opening at the Studioplex in Atlanta. It was a great night, several other galleries were open too and even a special glass blowing exhibit (which I thought was a live band before I got closer). This neighborhood is one of the newest low key areas in Atlanta that's perfect for individuals who want to venture out into the other activities available in Atlanta. The art scene in Atlanta is improving- more & more creatives are inventing more art and cultural experience events.

After viewing the gallery and walking in heels we decided to check out the newest hidden jewel Serpas Restaurant. Serpas offers a great selection in food, wine, and deserts (not cheap either) and a newly established Sunday Brunch into their weekly activities. Check them out!
